Greg Bowes
Means Proven Leadership ... Here’s why!

Greg Bowes Helps Victims of Crime

Greg has been a practicing attorney since 1985.  His practice includes representing victims of crime who seek compensation for their injuries.  His clients have suffered rape, attempted murder, child sexual abuse, and battery.  In one case, Greg worked for over 7 years to obtain a settlement for a woman sexually abused as a child.  The settlement included a public apology.  In order to bring the case to trial, Greg first successfully argued to the Indiana Supreme Court to allow evidence of repressed memory to be presented at trial.  The Supreme Court decision can be reviewed here.

Greg Bowes Manages Tough Challenges

Greg was elected in 2006 to serve as Marion County Assessor.  Shortly after that the Governor ordered Marion County to reassess the property tax assessments prepared by the township assessors.  Greg led the reassessment, and within 6 months revised assessments to be more uniform, equal, and measurably correct.  In 2008, the Indiana General Assembly ordered a referendum for voters to decide whether to transfer assessment responsibilities from township assessors to the county assessor.  In Marion County, voters chose by a 2-1 margin to assign the responsibilities to the county assessor.  Since January 2009, Greg has completely reorganized the assessment process.  He revised all the job descriptions for the agency, hired the most skilled and experienced employees, and assigned them to functional teams to help provide uniformity in assessments, and help share expertise among the staff.  Greg is helping Marion County get caught up to its normal property tax billing schedule with payments in May and November of each year.  Greg is modernizing the process and is making more assessment information available to the public.  Greg was able to make all this progress while spending $2 million less in property tax revenue to run the agency.

Greg Bowes Takes on Special Interests

Greg served his community for three years as a City-County Councillor.  In 2005, Greg co-authored and co-sponsored the SmokeFree Air Ordinance for Marion County, a proposal strongly opposed by the Tobacco Industry, but supported overwhelmingly by the public.  City and county governments all over Indiana quickly followed Marion County's example.

He has represented over 500 clients in the areas of criminal defense, personal injury, including intentional torts, appellate advocacy, trademark enforcement, and civil litigation.
